Compulsory Pettification (ComPet) was initially a controversial government program that went on to become both wildly successful and popular with the majority of the citizenry. The program calls for a small percentage of the country’s twenty-year-old female population to be drafted into what is known as the “pet service.” As a state-owned “ComPet,” otherwise known as a “pet girl,” “puppy girl,” or “service animal,” these draftees lose their human status for a period of two years. After a term of obedience training at a government center, these service animals are leased to owners for the remainder of their service.
